Live Video, mp3s and Photos from Calexico at the World Music Festival in Chicago
Last Thursday, Emily and I made the short trip up to Chicago to take a once-in-a-lifetime free concert. Calexico (along with the Mariachi Luz de Luna and Salvador Duran) were closing out the World Music Festival at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millenium Park. We walked into the venue at around 5PM and there was almost no one there. In fact, the pavilion was so empty that we strolled all the way up to the second row, dead center, and settled in for what would turn out to be an absolutely stunning live show. The weather was phenomenal, the openers, D.F. natives, Zazhil, were great, and the music was just spine-tinglingly good. I was too busy absorbing the incredible concert to take any notes, but I do come before you bearing multimedia gifts. Below are some videos we shot at the concert, along with some great quality mp3s of the songs. We were both so happy that they played both of our respective favorite songs ("Minas de Cobre" for me, and "Quattro" for Emily). In fact, we were so close, that the reason they played "Quattro" at all was because I shouted at Joey near the end of the set "Please play Quattro! We love you!" and they did! How incredible is that? Fucking incredible, that's how.
So enjoy the videos and songs, and if you're interested in the photos, check out our photostream of the show here.

oh man i would have loved to have gone to this show.
the sad thing is that the free shows at jay pritzker never get advertised enough. I mean the decemberists were insane but over the summer they had pitchfork-lunch series with other artists and i found out about them way late.
yeah it was absolutely incredible. I can't remember where Emily found out about the show, but she's definitely the one who found it!
The concert was listed on Calexico's website. I drove 800 miles from NJ to see the show. It was worth every mile. I arrived at 3:20 and watched Calexico do their sound check. Thanks for posting the video and pictures.
Wow! That's quite a trip, Juanita! I'm glad that I was able to give you a little bit of that concert to keep with you always.
