"Try on Me" Golden Animals

They say, "Bribery will get you everywhere". And you know, when a small label with the voice of a trusted friend sends you a hot-shit vinyl pressing of an album, completely unbidden, they're kind of right. I got the CD version of this album in the mail just before Emily and I went and got hitched, so I wasn't able to really give it a lot of attention. When we came back and pried open our overflowing mailbox I was excited to see what looked suspiciously like an LP carefully swaddled in cardboard and marked, "DO NOT BEND!". That gorgeous sepia toned record is turning gently on my turntable as we speak, and I feel like I need to turn the lights down low, light some Nag Champa, and stare vacantly into the red-orange glow of a nicely warmed up Lava Lamp.

The crisp, dry 2 minutes of "Try On Me" is Jim Morrison in 2008. I know it's easy to bandy about that comparison (hell, it's on the one sheet), but it's easy because it's true. Tommy Eisner has clearly worshipped at the altar of The Doors, burned one down for the Stones, and probably passed out cold for Janis Joplin. The roots are obvious, and the music is choice. While it may be damp and cool here in Columbus, the dusty is right around the corner, that hazy time of burned grass and heat mirages on the highway. And when those wavy mirrors and crunchy ground cover is all you can think about, "Free Your Mind and Win a Pony" will be on my iPod (and it should be on yours too.)
