Awesome, thanks guys. I have Aesop Rock, Cody Chestnut, and NERD, but the rest are new to me. I think after all is said and done, I'll have to have a hip-hop week :-D

it's the best hip hop i have ever heard. along with Liquid Swords by the Genius. you definitely want this one ASAP.
completely undated.
I can 2nd Neil Cake's whole list in fact. let's see, other can't go wrongs:
Big L
Jay-Z
Notorious BIG
Dr. Octagon
I'm not a fan of Jay-Z AT ALL. I do, however, have to admit that I don't think I've ever actually heard Biggie.
jay z may seem too mtv to some, but he is one the best
Hmm, well put. What would you recommend by him, then?
i've been kinda rock focused since starting the music blog but..
great way to start might be the unplugged session with the roots. i loved that album but some punk stole it from a party years ago.
otherwise his debut, reasonable doubt. the blueprint. black album. i tend to like the earlier stuff, go figure. it's all good. check youtube for vids from 94-96 and don't forget to pick up some Big L.
MF DOOM and MADLIB as MADVILLIAN - madvillainy
