"A Line for Every Letter" Mountaineer
I am currently in my local public library blogging for you dear readers, because I love you. The internet is still MIA at ThaBombShelter HQ, so I've had to leave the comfort and convenience of the bunker to bring Mountaineer to all of you. This band goes into the ever-growing file of bands I stumbled upon randomly. They had a snazzy name, so of course I had to check them out. I was happily surprised with the mellow, airy pop music that greeted my ears when I first heard them. Think Belle and Sebastian with a Bossa Nova beat. The sometimes clipped syllables of a non-native English speaker remind me of the soft vocals of amazon.com and preorder this bad boy.The song is a bright purple sunset in a coastal town. There are casinos and nightclubs, neon lights buzzing to life, each attempting to usurp the beauty of nature's light show. The glass doors are smoky black and hundreds of pin-prick bulbs line the ceilings. The sounds of a house-band are coming from the back corner of the lounge. You step into the sheltered confines and the clanging of the slots and the exclamations from the Roulette table fade into a muffled silence. The bartender is talking to an American at the end of the bar, he's nursing a Budweiser and the barman is cleaning glassware. He acknowleges you with a nod as you sit down. The soft guitars are still going in the background, the drummer's brushes are gently sliding across the skins and you start to nod your head. You order a gin and tonic when the backing vocalists chime in with their heavenly "aaaaahhhhhh, aaaaaahhhhhh's". The service is fast and you move closer to the enchanting band. There's a woman or a man sitting in a lonely table to the left of the small stage. With a light tap on his/her shoulder you're sitting next to them. Eyes glancing back and forth between them and the band, you surreptitiously appraise them and hope he/she feels the same tingle. The band winds down, the guitar leaving the bass drum to thump away with the keyboard, finally the drums fade into shadows and the keys are left all alone. Just the keys and you and her and him and once again you look each other in the eye.
